Once again, it’s been a while since our last blog entry so here goes…

Firstly, we have started sending out a newsletter, if you would like to be added to our emailing list then please send us your details via bookings@westmotopark.com.au.

Thanks again for everyone’s continuing support and contact throughout what has been a long preparation process… To those who have continued emailing and calling it’s awesome to know everyone is supporting us. You will be pleased to know that the park is rapidly taking shape.

We have come quite a long way since we last wrote. Most importantly, our building now looks like something that might actually be waterproof!! We spent one busy weekend screwing the walls and roof onto the building. Thanks to the many hands we had it was all up within the weekend and just in time before the rain started! It’s awesome for us to see the never ending building finally taking shape.

All the tiling was done inside the bathrooms and toilets in only a few days. The plumber paid us a visit and connected the pipes, which now means we have a fully functioning toilet and shower. Hot water is still to come but the shower works!!

The park was open to members who wanted to ride over the Easter break. We are now taking a small number of bookings for weekends up until the 9^th of May. This is for those who want to check out the park before the first official running weekend on the 9^th and 10^th of May. If you wish to contact us for anything, please use the above email or the link on our website.

Nearly There

We thought it was about time for another blog entry…

Thankyou to everyone who has emailed us through the website or given us a call, it’s wonderful to see so many people getting behind us and showing a keen interest in the park.

As the blog hasn’t been updated for a little while, we thought we would start emailing everyone a monthly update. Hopefully this will become more frequent as the park gets up and running. As far as park progress goes, we have some good news to report. All the tracks are close to completion with the finishing track markers being put in place as we speak. The ablution block/building is going ahead in leaps and bounds after a slow start. The frame for the building is all up and together, with the final parts being put in place over the weekend. It’s now time to get the iron sheets and get started on the roof – that’s our top priority at the moment as we would like to see the building finished soon!! Our tiler will be out within the next few weeks to make a start on the bathroom and toilet floors. Then, all that’s left is the walls!!

It’s been a long process but we thankyou all for your continued support throughout the last few months. Without knowing we have such a keen bunch of followers, it would definitely have made our job a lot harder. Please remember to keep checking the website for updates and maybe sometime soon, even an official opening date!! Also, don’t hesitate to drop us an email or give us a call, we are always happy to hear from you and help you out if you have any questions.

Northam Motorcycle Festival

What an absolutely awesome time we had at the Northam Motorcycle Festival! We’ve been really busy over the last few weeks to get organised to go and have the Park ready for riders. Which is why I haven’t managed to post anything new for a few weeks.

Friday we set up our awnings and our raffle prize at the show, while watching probably close to a million dollars worth of motorcycles unloaded and set up all around us. It was all a bit distracting.

Saturday saw us up early eager to make our display look its best. We had a very hard working model ‘Rupert’ on hand to show of our raffle prize of over $1000 worth of Scott, Thor and One Industries MX gear.

Our location along the path leading to the grassed area where the bar, show and shine and live music was, was great. We were fairly busy all day handing out brochures, stickers and entry forms for the Raffle.

Bethan, Aiden, Jake and Courtney did a great job helping out. Steve and I would never have been able to handle it on our own.

Sunday was even busier than Saturday. There was a ride in from Perth that brought maybe a thousand or more people. We met some really interesting and enthusiastic people, both from within the motorcycling industry and the general public. It was a really great show.

At about 3 o’clock on Sunday Karl Langdon drew our Raffle, and Congratulations to Michael Bettles who won. He was stoked to hear he’d won, and we’re glad the prize went to some who I’m sure is going to get good use out of it.

It was a long and tiring weekend for us, but we enjoyed every minute. Thanks to everyone that came and said g’day. We hope that you will all come and see us at West Moto Park in the new year, and get some great riding in. Well that’s about all the news I have for now. We’re working really hard to be ready before the new year is upon us.

Dowerin Field Days

Well we survived the two days of the Dowerin Field Days. Shaking hands, talking to people and selling a couple of quad bikes for Danny at Machinery Warehouse in Midland, really takes it out of you. But we had a good time and I think it was good for us to finally get out and start to promote ourselves. We met a lot of people who were really keen to come.

Also you will notice, (especially if you’re reading this), that our new website is up. Its still a bit sparse, but I’m sure we’ll manage to fill it with content over the following weeks. It can be found at www.westmotopark.com.au, if you stubbled accross my blog some other way.

My posts have been getting further apart lately, as the work load creating the park has been increasing. Last weekend was spent carting gravel for the Pro Two Wheel Track. About half of the dirt we need is in place, the rest should be done this week. Then we’ll get into grooming it. Thanks to Josh Herbert for offering to come and have look and offer his opinion on the design.

This weekend Steve is off to Yorkrakine to hang out in ‘Paradise’. He’ll be going to catch up with a few people at Ray Reids annual ride day. Say hello if you see him and I’m sure he’ll have a few stickers to hand around.

Steady Progress

Wow, what a month it’s been. With everything coming together at once, we’ve been kept pretty busy keeping up. We’ve decided that we prefer to cart dirt to build the track features, rather than dig holes next to the jumps and push the dirt up. So we hired a D9 Caterpillar from Nash Bros. and pushed up a couple or five thousand ton of gravel to use at the park.

Most people under estimate just how much dirt goes into building a motocross track. The Junior Two Wheel Track is mostly complete, some rain to compact the jumps would be good. We’re moving on to the quad bike area, as we’ve had a lot of interest from those guys. I’m keen to get that finished so I can start on the Pro Two Wheel Track, cos I’m really a two wheel guy. Our official website will be up shortly, giving you a much better look at the tracks, and a way to contact us for info and make bookings. So for now I’ll keep you up to date with my blog. The Fun Begins

It’s been a couple of weeks since my last post, so I thought it was time for an update. Most things are coming along smoothly. We had planned to have the concrete down for our showroom/office this week but we are still waiting on some steel arriving so that has been put back a week or so. But it means that track work has become the prime focus. Earlier in the week we purchased a loader/backhoe from Range Equipment. We originally were going to buy and articulated loader, but after seeing a JCB backhoe skillfully sculpt to most awesome berm at the Northam BMX track, we realised that a backhoe would be much more versatile.

Like I said everything else is working out well. We will be meeting with the shire soon to discuss a few things, like septic system requirements and the kiosk design, so they will meet Health Department regulations properly. All in all a very satisfying couple of weeks. I’ll keep you posted.In the mean time, Stay Safe and Stay Dirty.

Building Big!

Hi Mud-lovers, well some of you will have some mud, I’ve heard some places have had as much as 75mm of rain. We haven’t been quite so ‘fortunate’, with only about 3mm. Over the weekend I obtained the use of a 950 Cat wheel loader, which made short work clearing and levelling of the showroom site. So in the middle of the dust and rain that blew up yesterday, Steve and myself have pegged out most of the track area, and the office, showroom, kiosk and bike service buildings. Hopefully we’ll have the pad poured sometime next week, and construction of the building can start. Also we will finish roughing out the first three circuits, we are searching for a loader for track maintenance at the moment, the 950 is a bit cumbersome for shaping a good lip on the jumps. Here’s a couple of pic’s of the showroom site.

Vroom Vroom!

Just a quick post about the new feature of the park that I hinted at in my last post. Because our insurance came through so quickly, our schedule isn’t quite so tight now. So we’ve decided to make bikes available for hire to ride at the park from the beginning. Originally we didn’t think that we could manage to get all the things in place we would need to do it. But they are all falling into place nicely. So due to the interest in hiring bikes, that we get from everyone we talk to, we are going to try and make it happen sooner rather than later. Steve is looking for tenders to supply bikes as we speak, so if it all goes smoothly, we should have some shiny new toys for you to play with. Hmmm….. I wonder if we can get a couple of Huskies or KTM’s……………anyway Stay Tuned and Stay Dirty.

Well another busy week lies ahead, especially with Easter being so early this year making it a short week. One of our major hurdles was overcome this week with the granting of our insurance. Our insurer was impressed with our safety practices and operating procedures, and granted our application with only a couple of recommendations. They were things that really go without saying, like approved helmets, but need to be written into the policy. This paves the way to pursue another feature of the park that wasn’t part of the initial plan, but more on that later. We’ll be looking forward to taking a couple of days off over Easter. A bit of camping with the kids, and some of my other favourite pastime (motorbikes are the first of course), water skiing. I hope you all have a pleasant Easter break. I’m sure I’ll be nursing a few sore muscles after the long weekend, but it will be worth it. So Stay Tuned and Stay Dirty!

In The Beginning There Was Dirt!

Well it’s been a couple of hectic weeks. The structure of the business side of things is now set in stone, which is very satisfying. Work is underway building the first two tracks, which will be ‘PeeWee’ tracks. One is for motorbikes, the other for quads, with a observation area adjacent. The ‘Junior’ track is next, then a more advanced circuit. Longer ride trails around the property are being marked out. They will be ideal for mum, dad and the kids to wander off for while on their bikes, for a ride at their own pace. I hope your appetite is wetted, we can’t wait for when we can start taking bookings.
